PERIODONTITIS
Periodontitis is a serious infection of the gums that damages the soft tissue and, if left untreated, can destroy the bone supporting the teeth. It is characterized by tartar buildup on the teeth, inflammation and redness of the gums, and sensitivity in the infected area. Early treatment is essential to prevent tooth loss and other oral health problems.
HOW IT WORKS
A thorough dental cleaning is performed, which often includes root planing and scaling in more advanced cases. Tartar and bacteria above and below the gum are removed.
Occasionally, periodontal surgery is necessary to clean the bacteria, plaque and tartar present in the roots of the teeth.
