A root canal is a dental treatment that consists of the removal of the dental pulp (nerve lodged in the tooth), disinfection of the tooth and subsequent sealing. It is a very common dental treatment since it is one of the best ways to save a tooth so we give you more information about this treatment and how much does a root canal cost in Costa Rica.
What is a Root Canal?
Root canal is a dental treatment whose main objective is to save teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted. The repaired teeth are the original ones and maintain their chewing function, in addition to a natural and harmonious dental aesthetics.
This method makes it possible to eliminate the gingival and dental pain caused by the damaged teeth and return them to their normal function. After undergoing this treatment, eating or chewing will no longer be a problem for you.
Eliminate the problems of deep cavities that cause infection and pain or breaks that prevent normal dental function is possible.
It can be said that nerve treatment is the last step to avoid the extraction of a tooth, however, it is something that, as far as possible, we must avoid through a good and constant dental cleaning.
What does root canal consist of?
Nerve treatment seeks the total removal of the pulp or nerve of the tooth. It is a cleaning procedure of the root canal system in which bacteria and necrotic tissue are removed to leave the canal as aseptic as possible.
Root canal is performed in the following steps:
1. Diagnosis by the health professional:
During the diagnostic part, key questions are asked about symptoms, pain, intensity, location, and other queries to determine if endodontics is necessary.
If so, an x-ray is taken to determine the severity of the case and what needs to be done in the treatment.
At Lamicq Dental Care, this step is key because we can determine the cost, time and success rate of the treatment we are going to perform and we will recommend the best solution to save the tooth.
2. Anesthesia.
The anesthesia used in this type of intervention is local, affecting only the tooth to be treated and the surrounding area. It is important that at the time of anesthesia there is no infection or inflammation in the tooth for it to act correctly.
If there is infection, the intervention should be postponed and the patient will be prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs, if necessary.
3. Opening and isolation of the part:
A hole is drilled in the crown of the tooth through which the pulp is accessed for extraction and the tooth is isolated from the whole organism.
4. Conductometry and instrumentation:
It is the procedure of cleaning the ducts to make them aseptic or clean.
5. Sealing
This is the sealing phase of the tooth, through which the canals that have been cleaned are closed, leaving the tooth fully desensitize
6. Control
A subsequent x-ray and observation by the dentist to verify the effectiveness of the procedure. Follow-up is usually done for a few weeks or months.
Cost of root canal treatment in Costa Rica
The cost of a root canal or nerve treatment can vary greatly depending on the type of case and tooth where it is to be performed. Some of the variables are as follows:
- Type of tooth: Whether it is a front tooth, premolar or molar.
- Type of root canal: Mainly to know if the root canal is on a new tooth or through a crown.
- Re-treatment: In some cases, root canals are performed in such a non-optimal way that a second root canal is required, so a re-treatment is a more complex procedure.
Once the type of case is determined, the budget and cost of the nerve treatment is determined. The price of a root canal can normally range from 130,000 colones to 180,000 colones.
Although this is a range of prices, we recommend always contacting our specialist and our clinic on WhatsApp to determine a budget more in line with your case.
